WaND was launched in 2012 by three property and procurement specialists and is now supported by an increasing team of associates with expertise in managing and transforming the Government estate. Our background allows us to work within organisations to understand at a strategic level how large and complex property holdings support and service business activities. The WaND team has varied frontline corporate experience, particularly dealing with the complexities of Government decision-making and its impact upon the infrastructure and property industry.
Richard is a chartered surveyor with a long career in the public sector dealing with the procurement of large complex infrastructure and property projects. He is recognised as a procurement expert and international award winning Programme and Project Manager. He has successfully led large multi-disciplinary project teams in a number of high profile & demanding roles throughout his 19 years in the Public Sector and is now in his fifth year as a founder and Chairman of WaND Consulting. Richard has commercial acumen, understands both public sector governance and approval processes and industry drivers.
Ian has been a Director of WaND since 2012 and has 12 years' experience of working in the public sector and over 10 years' experience as a planning and development surveyor. During this time, he has developed excellent skills within infrastructure procurement and has delivered major developments. As a Director of WaND, Ian has aided numerous clients in successfully competing in a range of public sector procurement competitions involving both acquisition and disposal of property and infrastructure. He also helps guide clients through the process of making effective property asset decisions applying the WaND asset strategy most successfully when clients are transforming the way that they carry out business. Ian is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
With over 35 years’ experience as a Royal Navy Engineer and latterly as a consultant, John combines large-scale programme & project management expertise with systems engineering insight and an intuitive understanding of defence and the end-user. His broad defence background, much in organisational development and technology exploitation, and extensive Whitehall experience provide deep understanding of user requirements, expectations and procurement approaches. A Chartered Engineer, he is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering & Technology and the Chartered Management Institute, a professional mentor and fellowship assessor.
Sue was a founding Director of WaND Consulting in 2012 and has a primary focus on procurement helping to bridge the gap between public and private sector drivers. She is an accomplished procurement expert with over 20 years of public and private sector experience including delivering major Government infrastructure projects and initiatives. Specialising in Defence, Sue championed key supplier management within MOD’s Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and was responsible for initiating and managing the Supplier Associations to promote best practice across industry partners which saved the Department millions of pounds. Sue has an MSc in Defence Acquisition Management.
David completed an MBA at City University Business School, following an engineering first degree at Loughborough University. He has considerable defence acquisition experience culminating in his role as Chief Operating Officer at the Defence Infrastructure Organisation where he was responsible for delivering proposals on the management of the estate as part of the Strategic Defence and Security Review in 2010. For the past 4 years David had been Managing Director within the Babcock International Group responsible for 4 businesses ranging from media and education through to Infrastructure businesses both in the UK and Brazil. David is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology as well as a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. David joined WaND as a NED in June 2017.
Chantal has been Marketing Executive with HLM Architects since 2006 and also joined WaND as Business Manager in April 2017. Her diverse experience spans business development, quality bid and project management and client relationship management. Working across the company nationally and internationally, she has been pivotal in developing the brand and promoting a unified and corporate approach to high-end event management. Chantal has worked in a variety of sectors including defence, custodial and justice, commercial, education and healthcare at all levels within the organisation.
Nigel has extensive experience in the strategic direction, management and delivery of programmes within the public sector and collaboration with industry. With a background in research and technology, Nigel has a keen interest and sound track record in developing new engagement mechanisms and ways-of working between the public and private sector. Nigel has also established a track record in anticipating the need for, and delivering, organisational change. Nigel left the MOD in April 2015 after working most recently on the defence infrastructure strategy and joined WaND as an Associate. Nigel is a member of the Institute of Physics and the Institution of Engineering and Technology and is a Chartered Physicist and Chartered Engineer.
Karen was a Royal Navy Officer for 15 years and completed her 28 years service working within the Royal Navy Head Quarters Business Change Programme. She has experience across a number of sectors within the military including medical support, training, business management, planning, logistics, personnel management and senior officer support. An accomplished administrator and accustomed to working under pressure and to tight deadlines. Karen became a WaND Associate in February 2017.
Phil has over 40 years of experience working in the public sector as a Director, Programme Manager and Project Manager. These roles have been performed during times of organisational transition and he has been a leader of change at a senior level. Phil is familiar with government procedures on financing and approvals of major projects and is experienced in all aspects of infrastructure procurement. Having left the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) in July 2015, he joined WaND as an associate in September 2015. Phil is a member of the institutions for Civil Engineering and Highways and Transportation.
Steve was a Royal Air Force Officer for 16 years. The latter part of his career was spent in the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) in which time he has gained extensive experience in delivering major infrastructure projects in the defence sector. Within both the public and private sector, Steve has managed and advised on routine and complex new build and refurbishment projects from inception to completion. He has also prepared feasibility studies and cost estimates for projects in the defence sector. He is skilled in project management; applying his defence experience to infrastructure projects on behalf of the MOD as an authority or defence contractors. His experience and understanding of the military ensures that military ethos, culture and operations remain central to infrastructure solutions.
Bob is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers with over 40 years’ experience, working in several public-sector roles in all parts of the UK and overseas including major projects design, programme and project management, and latterly as head of a large FM organisation. These roles have been delivered through frequent business change and he has been a leader of this change at a senior level. Bob has an in depth understanding of government procedures on facilities management and is experienced in infrastructure procurement. Bob left the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) in Dec 2016, joining WaND in May 2017.
John has extensive experience in the private, public and international defence and security environments covering a range of influential roles in science & technology research, system design and development, and capability exploitation. This is supported by over thirty years’ experience within industry up to director level, across a number of areas including weapon systems design, the systems engineering and integration of complex defence systems and business development. One of his current roles is as an independent science and technology advisor to government, where he is providing advice on research direction and technology capability development. John is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, a Chartered Physicist and Chartered Engineer.
Stephen has over thirty years industry experience and a further eleven years within the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO). He has worked for Consultants, Contractors and Service providers, over several industry sectors globally including defence, road, rail, dockyard, commercial, industrial, construction and communications. His most recent role within the DIO focused on portfolio management, risk management and organisational development. During his career he has successfully delivered projects of varying sizes, nature and complexity and consistently managed resources, budgets and schedule parameters from concept, procurement and delivery through to operation. Stephen is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institute of Risk Managers.
Denis is an experienced chartered civil engineer, who has a wide experience of both project management and of civil and structural engineering construction projects. Denis has over 12 years' experience as a Project Manager within the Defence Infrastructure Organisation. Prior to this he spent 17 years in the Royal Engineers before working for over 15 years with major multidisciplinary engineering consultancies. He has worked on a variety of military and civil engineering projects as a team player and team leader capacities. After leaving the Army, Denis worked for consultants as a civil & structural designer, planning supervisor and project manager on construction sites and in design offices in UK and overseas. He became a WaND Associate in June 2017.
