About WaND

Our Story

In 2012 WaND was founded upon the straightforward idea of helping estates and infrastructure companies to partner, work with and better deliver for the public sector. Sue, John and Ian have built upon this idea, bringing WaND’s many years of public sector experience to help people understand the challenges we faced as public servants when engaging with industry.

Together we expanded the concept, recognising the many talented individuals working for Government bodies whose knowledge can really help private sector companies to better provide new buildings, development, facilities and management services. Our late co-founding director, Richard Nelson, set WaND’s hallmark of integrity, professionalism, friendliness and sense of fun in everything we do. This is very much ingrained in way WaND works and helps clients today.

WaND are an experienced, specialist consultancy whose core business is in helping the private and public sectors better understand each other and work together to deliver public infrastructure and related services. Since 2012, WaND has established a reputation across industry by successfully supporting procurements and projects related to construction, facilities management, property development, programme management and technical services.

Our Associates

A Wealth of Knowledge

Our network of associates brings a wealth of knowledge and insight across construction, infrastructure, facilities management, military equipment and IT systems and specialist areas such as nuclear related infrastructure. Each with 15-30+ years’ experience, covering a range of cross-disciplinary specialisations, they provide essential perspectives from procurer and deliverer through to end user in both public and private sectors.

We can call on a breadth of Army, Navy and Air Force expertise and many bring further skills from complementary prior careers. Urban planner to pilot, medical services specialist to technical R&D leader, logistician to defence diplomat… we build a team that more than matches the task and invariably brings extra dimensions. Our Associates are characterised by an enthusiasm for the task, knowledge tempered with pragmatism and an ability to work under pressure and at pace in new as well as familiar contexts.

Metropolitan Police Hard FM & Engineering Services Procurement

The Metropolitan Police initiated a procurement competition seeking a single industry partner to provide hard FM and engineering services. The Met had decided to transform its relationship with industry, moving from a North and South model to a single partnering arrangement to maintain its complex, critical and diverse estate. This estate, covering 160 sites, includes non-standard assets ranging from aviation, stables, port and training facilities to micro assets such as 36,000 lockers. Our Client, a major UK FM entity, had targeted the contract as a new business opportunity and tasked WaND with supporting them in securing it.

Securing Major Construction Contracts that will change the future of the Defence Estate

As part of its Defence Estates Optimization Programme (DEOP), MOD sought Delivery Partners for 5 Regional and 6 Major Projects packages of accommodation and technical infrastructure, totaling £3.65Bn. Our Client considered achieving a significant role in DEOP as fundamental to its defence business.

Developing London’s Heritage – The New London Museum

The Museum of London are creating a new £340M museum in dilapidated market buildings in Smithfield by 2026. The new museum, once complete, will comprise over 26,000 square metres. The ambition is to create a museum that is truly London, that is appealing and meaningful for the diverse population of London and for visitors from across the UK and the world.

Central to the realisation of this ambition was the need to appoint a high calibre Construction Manager who would bring not only their technical expertise and experience but also a passion to share in the creation of what will be a new landmark cultural attraction for London. SRM were immensely passionate about securing this contract and they appointed WaND to help them succeed.
